League of Legends Expired Old Modes

League of Legends currently has default Summoner’s Rift, Aram and a rotating featured mode every 2 weeks as active game modes, however, Riot Games has created more than 15 different game modes, most of them being expired and never having come back. Today we’re here to share with you all the expired game modes in League of Legends.

Twisted Treeline was a 3 VS 3 game mode which had its own ranking apart from Summoner’s Rift. It had new large monsters and a new epic monster called Vilemaw that awarded the first ever minion buff in League of Legends for the team that killed him. This map also had 2 altars that could be captured, giving bonus gold and damage.

Hexakill was a 6 VS 6 temporary game mode that first came out in 2014 for Summoner’s Rift and then later in 2016 for Twisted Treeline. This was almost the same League of Legends as we know today, the only difference was the number of players playing for each team. This was the only game mode in which you could achieve a hexakill by killing all enemy players.

Ascension was a 5 VS 5 temporary game mode played in Crystal Scar map which consisted in getting 200 points. To get these points you needed to gather relics around the map, kill players and kill Xerath. The player dealing the last hit to Xerath would become ascended, getting bonus health, armor, magic resistance, attack damage, ability power, cooldown reduction and no mana/energy cost.

Dominion was a 5 VS 5 game mode whose main objective was to capture points and kill enemy players, dealing damage to enemy Nexus. This was a fast-paced match that averaged 15 to 20 minutes to finish as it had many skirmishes.

Doom Bots of Doom was the first Co-op VS AI game mode in League of Legends. All bots are mutated in this match depending on the difficulty, having their own abilities empowered as well as using abilities from other champions. The main objective in this game mode was to survive 15 minutes and then kill the Devil Teemo that spawned.

Star Guardian Mission is a Co-op battle in which you can only play Star Guardian champions and have to defeat a series of invading space monsters, culminating in a large boss fight. On invasion mode you will get the base experience from this game mode, on onslaught you will find higher difficulties to play and ranks up to S+ based on your performance.

Legend of The Poro King was a 5 VS 5 temporary game mode for Snowdown Showdown in Howling Abyss. The main objective was still destroying the enemy nexus, however, you could try to summon The Poro King to help sieging by landing snowballs on the enemy champions.

Black Market Brawlers was a 5 VS 5 temporary game mode in Summoner’s Rift that came out with the Burning Tides event in which Gangplank received his rework. In this mode you could earn Krakens by killing enemy champions, epic monsters and enemy jungle camps to spend on upgrading your minions offense or defense.

Nexus Siege was a 5 VS 5 game mode in which teams only had 1 objective at the time. If you’re on the blue side, your job is to destroy the enemy’s nexus as fast as possible, if you’re on the red side, your job is to defend your nexus from enemies. This game mode was played in half of Summoner’s Rift and had exclusive weapons and defenses to buy in the shop with Crystal Shards, given throughout the game.

Hunt of the Blood Moon was a 5 VS 5 gamemode played in Summoner’s Rift in which you had a small pool of 21 champions to play. Its main objective was to earn 350 points, awarded by killing enemy champions, Spirits of the Blood Moon and Demon Heralds. Killing champions or Spirits of the Blood Moon would give you a stack, getting 3 would make you invisible and empower your next auto attack dealing bonus 20% of the enemy target’s maximum health as true damage

OVERCHARGE was a 3 VS 3 game mode in which you could only play marksman champions in Substructure 43. Its main objective was to earn 50 points, awarded by killing enemy champions and destroying Charge Bots. After destroying 5 Charge Bots your team would get overcharged, becoming invulnerable and dealing more damage.

Dark Star: Singularity was a 3 VS 3 game mode in which you could only play Thresh in Cosmic Ruins. Its main objective was to get 100 points, awarded by hooking or flaying enemy champions or scuttle into the Dark Star.

Odyssey: Extraction was a Co-op battle in which you had to defeat a series of invading space monsters, culminating in a large boss fight against Odyssey Kayn while you could only play with Odyssey champions. This game mode had 5 different difficulties, those being Intro, Cadet, Crewmember, Captain and Onslaught.
